MAKE A CHANGE

Something in your life needs to change.

Maybe you know exactly what it is. Maybe you only know that the way you are feeling, reacting, relating, working, or living is no longer working for you.

Code Calm is a practical method for understanding what happens when you lose access to yourself under pressure—and learning how to change what happens next.

Less automatic. More choice. More freedom to live in a way that feels true to you.

YOU MAY ALREADY KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO CHANGE

You want to stop having the same argument.

Set a boundary without second-guessing yourself.

Make the decision you have been avoiding.

Stop saying yes when you mean no.

Respond differently to criticism or disappointment.

Change the way you speak to yourself.

Stop organizing your life around fear, urgency, guilt, or someone else's expectations.

Trust yourself more at work or in a relationship.

Leave something that no longer fits—or participate more fully in something that does.

Or maybe nothing is dramatically wrong.

You simply want more freedom, more fulfillment, and more of yourself available for the life you are living.

KNOWING BETTER ISN'T ALWAYS ENOUGH

Pressure changes what you can access.

Most of us already possess many of the qualities we need:

Perspective. Courage. Patience. Compassion. Judgment. Restraint. Honesty. Creativity.

But possessing those capacities and being able to access them in a difficult moment are not the same thing.

When we are hurt, afraid, angry, ashamed, overwhelmed, rushed, or uncertain, our range can narrow quickly. We defend. Explain. Control. Comply. Withdraw. Attack. Avoid. Go blank. Reach for whatever has protected us before.

The reaction may make sense. It may even bring immediate relief.

But it does not always take us where we actually want to go.

You do not need to become less human. You need another route.

CODE CALM GIVES YOU A WAY BACK

Code Calm is built around a simple embodied practice called SNAP.

STOP

Interrupt the automatic sequence.

NOTICE

Recognize what is happening—around you and within you.

ALLOW

Make room for what is already here without immediately suppressing it, escaping it, or letting it determine what happens next.

PLAN

Regain enough perspective and orientation to see what matters and what options are available.

CHOOSE

Take one trustworthy next step.

Stop → Notice → Allow → Plan → Choose

The goal is not to eliminate activation or remain calm all the time.

The goal is to have more of yourself available when it matters.

THE LARGER GOAL IS FREEDOM

Not freedom from reality. Greater freedom in how you meet it.

Code Calm is not about becoming perfectly regulated, endlessly calm, or immune to difficulty.

Life will still contain conflict, loss, uncertainty, other people's choices, bodies with limits, and circumstances we did not ask for.

Freedom means becoming less unnecessarily governed by old patterns, protective reactions, fear, compulsion, and ways of being that no longer fit the life you are living now.

More freedom to pause.

To tell the truth.

To change your mind.

To stay.

To leave.

To ask.

To refuse.

To repair.

To love without abandoning yourself.

To choose what matters rather than simply repeat what is familiar.

Changing your life requires self-leadership. Self-leadership begins with how you meet yourself.

Code Calm gives you a way to practice that in ordinary life.

THREE WAYS TO PRACTICE CODE CALM

Start where the work is useful to you.

There is no required sequence. Each way of engaging with Code Calm serves a different purpose.

Code Calm — The Book

How to Stand Your Ground Without Losing Yourself

I want to understand what is happening and begin on my own.

The book is the foundation of Code Calm.

It explains why insight alone can fail under pressure, why the body may react before the mind has made sense of what is happening, how protective patterns become automatic, and how SNAP creates another possibility.

Read at your own pace. Mark it up. Return to it when something happens. Begin practicing in the moments that matter.

Best for: understanding the framework, recognizing your patterns, learning SNAP, and beginning independently.

WHAT READERS ARE SAYING

Ryan Hansen · 5 stars

“Much needed read on the journey to healing!”

I came to this book as a veteran with PTSD and as someone in therapy recovering from years in a high control religious environment, and it's the first thing I've read that treats both as the same problem: losing access to yourself under pressure. The SNAP method (Stop, Notice, Allow, Plan, Choose) is short enough to actually use in the moment, and the line 'regulation is not compliance, calm is not consent' undid something that was built into me for years. This isn't a book about becoming easier to be around, it's about getting back to yourself faster, and the lessons will certainly help on the journey to healing.

“Valuable Insights for Wellness”

I have benefitted personally from Dr. Giulietta Octavio's holistic healing for many years, and was excited to read her new practical guide with a five-step repeatable method to help you find your way back to your best self during stressful moments. SNAP (Stop, Notice, Allow, Plan, Choose) helps us to reclaim self-leadership under pressure and Giulietta shares many meaningful examples that bridge theory and practice.

She reminds us that while we may slip into old patterns, we can always choose a "cleaner next step" and repeated practice in high-friction zones builds a reliable route back to oneself. This book isn't about being perfect; it’s about the courage to return to a place of self-respect and kindness, one small breath at a time. So grateful to have Dr. Octavio's insights close at hand now in this wonderful book!

PRACTICE

Code Calm Foundations

I understand the idea. I want to know how to use it.

Foundations turns Code Calm from something you understand into something you can retrieve when something real is happening.

Through live teaching, embodied practice, real-life examples, and direct experience with SNAP, you learn to recognize narrowing earlier, stay with what is happening, regain access to yourself, and choose what comes next.

You practice the method in several forms so it remains useful when you have plenty of time—and when you have almost none.

This is not a lecture series about managing stress.

It is practice for having more of yourself available under pressure.

Best for: learning SNAP experientially, building confidence using it, and developing a practical route you can access in everyday life.

Code Calm Circle

I know the method. I want help living it.

Real life gets more complicated than any five-step explanation.

We know how to run SNAP—and then the person we love says the one thing that takes us straight back into an old pattern. We understand boundaries until setting one has consequences. We know what we value until two things we value conflict.

Circle is where we work with that complexity.

Each gathering draws from real situations in our lives: relationships, work, family, health, decisions, conflict, loss, repair, possibility, and change.

We learn from our own experience and from one another's.

The purpose is not to consume more content.

It is to become increasingly able to live what we already know under more complicated conditions.

Best for: people familiar with Code Calm who want ongoing practice, reflection, community, and deeper application in real life.

WHAT CHANGES WITH PRACTICE?

Not perfection.

Not permanent calm.

Not a life without activation.

With practice, you may begin to:

Recognize earlier.

Notice the moment before an old pattern completely takes over.

Recover more reliably.

Find your way back after activation—or after you have already missed the moment.

See more clearly.

Distinguish what actually happened from what fear, history, urgency, or habit is making it mean.

Have more options.

Respond from a wider range than attack, disappear, please, defend, control, or avoid.

Trust yourself more.

Not because you always get it right, but because you know you can return, discern, choose, and repair.

Become freer.

Be less automatically governed by what has organized you in the past and more able to participate deliberately in the life in front of you.

WHERE DOES CODE CALM APPLY?

Code Calm is for people who often know what matters but cannot always reach what they know when pressure rises.

The practice belongs in ordinary life:

Relationships.
Conflict.
Leadership.
Parenting.
Caregiving.
Work.
Health challenges.
Transitions.
Boundaries.
Uncertainty.
Success.
Loss.
Love.

The difficult conversation.

The decision you keep postponing.

The text you are about to send.

The apology you owe.

The truth you have been avoiding.

Life itself is where the practice belongs.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BECOME SOMEONE ELSE

The purpose of Code Calm is not to manufacture a better personality.

You already possess more courage, intelligence, compassion, perspective, honesty, and capacity than you can access in every moment.

Practice helps make more of what is already there available when it matters.

And as more of you becomes available, more becomes possible:

More choice. More integrity. More self-trust. More freedom. Fuller participation in the life that is actually yours.
